Our workings, in the open

How we work out your savings

No mystery maths. Every figure on this site comes from a published price we can point you at, dated on the day we checked it. Here's the whole method, so you can mark our homework.

Held back from results

Last checked against the published source on 16 August 2026. Priced by comparison engine v1.5.0 for Northern Ireland, in pounds.

We recheck the sources 3 times a day

Every 8 hours we go back to each published document our prices come from and compare every number on it — unit rates, standing charges, percentage changes — against what we read last time. If a figure moves, we know the same day, and a person re-reads the document before any price on this site changes.

Checking the log…

Where each price comes from

We don't ring round for secret rates. Every price is read from a document anyone can open.

The maths, on a real deal

A year's cost is your usage times the unit rate, plus the standing charge for 365 days, less any discount or credit. That's it — no weighting, no sponsored bumps.

Budget EnergyBudget Energy Keypad 20% discount + £80 credit

At 3,200 kWh a year, the typical home figure used by the Consumer Council.

Energy: 3,200 kWh × 30.078p
£962.50
Standing charge: 9.975p × 365 days
£36.41
Welcome credit (year 1)

Year 1 total
£918.90

Your saving is this figure taken off what your current deal would cost you at the same usage. Same usage, same maths, both sides — that's the only fair way to do it.

How we order the results

  • • Cheapest first, on year 1 total cost. Commission never moves a deal up the list.
  • • We check the whole market for your postcode, meter and payment method — not a panel of partners.
  • • Regulated tariffs are labelled as regulated, so you can see which prices the regulator sets.
  • • If a deal can't be sold to you, we say why instead of quietly dropping it.

We're paid by some suppliers when a switch completes — the full story is on how we make money.

Who checks the market

Northern Ireland's energy market is overseen by the Utility Regulator, and our prices come from Consumer Council for Northern Ireland price comparison tables. We supply nothing — we compare. If you spot a price that's out of date, we want to know, and we'll date the fix.
